The Clarkston Education Foundation (CEF) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2011 CEF scholarships totaling $10,300. The CEF continues to fulfill our mission statement by enhancing education in Clarkston schools and investing in the future of young citizens. Congratulations to all of these students!

Clarkston Education Foundation Scholarships
Recipient: Michael Dolezal ($1500)
Plans to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
Michael said in his application, “I have learned to take challenges and fears head on. I know that college will be a challenge, but I know I will succeed.”

Recipient: Karlee Kirking ($1500)
Plans to attend University of Idaho
Karlee referred to her summer study in Cambridge, England in her application. “I learned that cultural difference only means a difference in way of living. It is not a difference in humanity.”

Recipient: Tiffany Ho ($1100)
Plans to attend University of Washington
Tiffany referred to her move from Seattle to Clarkston in her application. “I am able to teach my friends and other people about my cultural background. Through this I have gained many social skills that will make me a better person and leader.”

Recipient: Bryce James ($1100)
Plans to attend Gonzaga University
Bryce said in his application, “I have been taught the importance of striving for excellence and know that hard work and a kind heart are rewarded.”

Clarkston Education Foundation Promise Scholarships ($500 each)
Recipient: Jeremy Hund
Plans to attend Lewis Clark State College studying EMT or sports medicine.
Jeremy was nominated for his academic promise in 2007 by LMS teacher, Andrea Dale.

Recipient: Myranda Johnson
Plans to attend Walla Walla Community College majoring in psychology.
Myranda was nominated for her academic promise in 2007 by LMS teacher, Christy Simons.

Brent McGreer Leadership Scholarship ($1000)
Recipient: Mitchell Carey
Mitch plans to attend University of Idaho and study marketing.
He has a 4.0 grade point average and is in the top ten percent of the graduating class.

Charles R. and Louise V. Setlow Memorial Scholarship for the Advancement of Science Education ($1000)
Recipient: Michael Dolezal
Michael plans to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and study Global Securities & Intelligence Systems. He has a 3.96 grade point average and is in the top ten percent of the graduating class.

CEF Manufacturing Scholarship (sponsored by Jetco Machine and Fabrication) ($550 each)
Recipients: Keegan Layes and Garrison Layes
Both Keegan and Garrison plan to attend Lewis-Clark State College and study welding technology. Thanks to LCSC for matching $500 of both scholarships!

CEF 8th Grade Promise Scholarships ($500 each)
Two Lincoln Middle School students, Emily Cone & Paige Rohrbach, will receive a $500 scholarship upon high school graduation and entrance into a postsecondary institution. They were nominated by their teachers for showing academic promise while at LMS. Emily Cone is the daughter of Mike and Michelle Cone and Paige Rohrbach is the daughter of Mark and Sarah Rohrbach.

The Clarkston Education Foundation continues to fulfill our mission statement by enhancing education in Clarkston schools and investing in the future of young citizens. Congratulations to all of these students!

The Clarkston Education Foundation is proud to award $8,500 in scholarships to the following recipients. Congratulations and best of luck from your Clarkston community!

Clarkston Education Foundation Scholarships
*Two of these scholarships are provided in part by Arlene Jacobs Wyche-the Valedictorian of the CHS Class of 1948!
Recipient: Riley Swanson ($1500)
Riley plans to attend the University of Idaho and study Agribusiness with career plans to go into agriculture law. She has a 4.0 grade point average, is one of the Valedictorians of the class of 2010 and is in the Top Ten Percent of her graduating class. Riley has been involved in DECA four years at CHS placing 3rd at National DECA competition this year. She is also involved in FFA, softball and trap shooting. Her parents are Jerri Swanson and Mark Swanson.

Recipient: Jessica Ubachs ($1000)
Jessica plans to attend Gonzaga University and study Business or Political Science. Jessica has plans to eventually hold a political office.  She worked on the WA State Legislative Youth Advisory Council, WA State 4-H Advisory Board as Youth President and played alto sax in the CHS band all four years. Jessica was also involved in DECA taking 1st place at Nationals this year. Jessica’s parents are Math and Lisa Ubachs.

Recipient: Katie VanCleave ($1000)
Katie plans to attend Washington State University and study biology and bioengineering. Katie has career plans of becoming a physician, dermatologist or medical researcher. She has a grade point average of 4.0, is one of the Valedictorians of the class of 2010 and is in the Top Ten Percent of her graduating class. Katie has been involved with Student Council, Link Crew, Volleyball and Tennis during her four years at CHS. Her parents are Rick & Natalie VanCleave.

Recipient: Eric Goodwin ($1000)
Eric plans to attend Washington State University to study Electrical Engineering with career plans to be an Electrical Technician. Eric was very involved with Marching Band as Section Leader, Knowledge Bowl, WSU Imagination Tomorrow competition along with Tennis all four years. Eric earned a 4.0 gpa, Valedictorian of the Class of 2010 and is in the Top Ten Percent of his graduating class. His parents are Larry & Debbie Goodwin.

Brent McGreer Leadership Scholarship
Recipient: Nicholas Carey ($1000)
Nic plans to attend the University of Idaho and major in Nutrition with a Pre-Med option. He has career plans of going to Medical School and becoming a Doctor. Nic has been involved for four years in DECA serving as officers (Treasurer, Vice President and President) as well as placing first in Nationals this month. Plus, Nic is the first DECA student to qualify for internationals all four years of high school. In addition, he also played three sports a year for all four years while at CHS-basketball, cross country and track. He has a 4.0 gpa, Valedictorian of Class 2010 and is in the Top Ten Percent of his class. Nic’s parents are Paul & Lynn Carey.

Recipient: Nicholas Carey ($1000)
Nic plans to attend the University of Idaho and major in Nutrition with a Pre-Med option. He has career plans of going to Medical School and becoming a Doctor. Nic finds the field of microbiology very fascinating. Nic is a 2010 Valedictorian and participated in three sports every year at CHS-basketball, cross country and track.  One of Nic’s science teachers said, “Inquisitive, accurate and persistent describe Nicholas’ approach to gaining knowledge and skills. He is well suited to become a great physician.” Nic’s parents are Paul & Lynn Carey.

Jetco Machine and Fabrication Manufacturing Scholarship
Recipient: Brady Mock ($500)
Brady plans to attend Lewis-Clark State College and study welding technology. LCSC will be matching this scholarship for $500. Brady has career plans of getting a well paying job in the welding field. Brady was involved with the Trap Shooting team, National Honor Society as well as being a Scholar Athlete while playing football, baseball and basketball. He has a grade point average of 3.627. Brady’s parents are Ronnie & Suzanne Mock. 

CHS Promise Scholarship
Recipient: Cara Smead-Darst ($500)
Cara plans to attend Walla Walla Community College or Spokane Community College to pursue a degree in dental hygiene. Cara received this scholarship as an 8th grader at Lincoln Middle School for showing academic promise. She was nominated by her teacher, Deanne Ruddell, who said, “Cara is cooperative, hardworking and academically skilled at working.” Cara’s parents are Dave Darst and Loy Smead.

Eighth Grade Promise Scholars
Recipients: Raven McFann ($500) & George Pazmino ($500)
These two Lincoln Middle School students will receive a $500 scholarship upon graduation from high school and entrance into a postsecondary institution. They were nominated by their 8th grade teachers for showing academic promise while at Lincoln Middle School. Raven McFann has career plans to be a video game creator. She is the daughter of Toni Anderson. George Pazmino has career plans to be a police officer or an engineer. He is the son of Ricky and Edith Foust.

2009 CEF Scholarship Recipients Announced

Clarkston Education Foundation Scholarship for $1,500
Recipient: Kaitlin Harris
Kaitlin plans to be a chef and eventually open her own restaurant. She will attend The Art Institute of Seattle with a major in Culinary Arts Management. She has a 3.3 grade point average. Kaitlin’s parents are Michael Harris and Irene Cook.

Brent McGreer Leadership Scholarship for $1,000
Recipient:  Gavin Lejameyer
Gavin plans to attend Washington State University and study Sports Management. He has a 3.85 grade point average and is in the top ten percent of the graduating class. Gavin’s parents are Dan and Andrea Lejameyer.

Charles R. and Louise V. Setlow Memorial Scholarship for the Advancement of Science Education for $1,000
Recipient:  Angelina Miraglio
Lena plans to attend Walla Walla Community College and pursue a degree in Biology and/or Environmental Science. She has a 4.0 and is the Valedictorian for the graduation class of 2009. Lena is the daughter of Mike and Carol Miraglio.

Promise Scholarship for $500
Recipient:  Matt Powell
Matt plans to attend North Idaho College pursuing a degree in Nursing or Radiology Technician. Matt is the son of Kathy Powell and Doug Powell.

Eighth Grade Promise Scholars
Recipients:  Colby Ruark & Jared Weber.
These two Lincoln Middle School students will receive a $500 scholarship upon high school graduation. They were nominated by their 8th grade teachers for showing academic promise while at LMS. Colby Ruark is the son of Kristi and Jon Ruark. Jared Weber is the son of John Weber.


2008 CEF Scholarship Recipients Announced

 

The Clarkston Education Foundation (CEF) is proud to announce three scholarships awarded to CHS seniors. The students will receive their awards at the CHS Awards Night on May 21, 2008.

Brian Johnson will receive the $1,500 CEF Senior Scholarship. He plans on attending Montana State University majoring in electrical engineering.

Briana Mock will receive the $1,000 Brent McGreer Leadership Scholarship. She will be attending Eastern Washington University majoring in dental hygiene.

Jeff Johnson who is receiving the $1,000 Setlow Science Scholarship. He will be leaving for Montana State University in August to major in electrical engineering. 

The CEF Board of Directors wishes our three senior scholarship winners, Brian, Briana and Jeff, the best of luck as they leave the Clarkston valley to pursue their careers.
